Collecto, Inc Phone Harassment?

Is Collecto, Inc (CI) harassing you?

When an account or bill goes unpaid for some time, the issue of debt collection comes into play. Debt collectors are agencies assigned to recover debts from people who owe. They agree to pursue the debt on behalf of the original creditor on the grounds that they will be paid a commission or a percentage of the debt they recover. Debt collectors many times, go to the extreme in an attempt to recover debts from debtors.
They have been found many times, harassing, threatening, and using curse words when speaking to a consumer. Some debt collectors even go as far as calling third parties and telling them about a consumer’s debt.
Being harassed by debt collectors could be a very petrifying experience. If a debt collector begins to make you feel unsecured and scared about your safety, you should know that such harassment is illegal and can be stopped. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act is a federal law that was passed to protect consumers from scary debt collectors.
If a debt collector violates the FDCPA, you have the right to sue them and get awarded a $1,000

What do you do after you have paid a debt collector

Paying a debt collector after you have confirmed that the debt is yours is a great thing to do but it doesn’t end there. After paying a debt collector, here are a few things you should do:

  • Try to avoid further debts: It is great that you came out of this debt successfully but it is wise to use that as a guide to ensure that you do not fall into the same pit twice. Do your best to live within your means and avoid debts.
  • Immediately begin to make plans to improve your credit score by asking the debt collector to remove the debt from your credit report.
It is wise to say this to the debt collector even before you pay the debt. Get them to agree to remove the negative entry from your credit report before you pay.
Another feasible option is to hire a professional who can help you get the debt off your credit report.
