National Recoveries Inc. Phone Harassment?

Is National Recoveries Inc. (NRI) calling you?

As their name implies, debt collectors are simply agencies who pursue and collect debts. Although debt collectors collect debts, the debt may or may not belong to them. Debt collectors are assigned by creditors and businesses to collect debts from consumers who owe. If you’re getting calls from a debt collector, it may be due to a bill or two that you have fallen behind on. However, do not conclude based on every debt collection call you receive that you owe the debt, seek to verify, and get the debt validated before you make plans to pay.

According to the FDCPA, you are allowed to make a debt validation request; this means that you are allowed to write to any debt collection agency who calls you, asking them to send you proof that you actually owe the debt as they claim. If a debt collector fails to honor your debt validation request and keeps calling you, they are violating your rights and you can choose to sue them. Debt collectors who harass, threaten, or lie to consumers are also violating the FDCPA.

Debt collection harassment could be frustrating and disturbing. This is why you should be aware of your rights and not tolerate any form of harassment from debt collectors. If you are being harassed by National Recoveries Inc., call us now on 877-700-5790

How can I tell a fake debt collector from a real one?

Debt collection scams are on the rise and many unsuspecting people have fallen prey to them. It is always wise not to disclose any information to any supposed debt collector when they first call.

When debt collectors call you, they may be interested in getting information from you about your income, finance, bank details, and so on. Refrain from giving them this information and advice your friends and family to do the same, as they may be fraudsters posing as debt collectors and trying to retrieve information from you. Elderly people are said to be the target of such unethical practices because they are mostly unsuspecting.

You may not be able to tell a fake debt collector from a real one at first. This is why you should never make payments online, immediately after the first phone call, or give out your personal information.

If you suspect that the person calling you is not legit, you can ask questions. The FDCPA allows you to ask debt collectors questions and mandates them to respond.

Below are valid questions a legit debt collector should answer correctly:

  • What is your name and what agency do you represent?
  • What is the address of the agency?
  • Who is the debtor listed on the debt you claim and what is their address?
  • How much is the debt and who is the original creditor?
  • What is the address of the original creditor?

A legit debt collector should be able to answer all the questions above. If they fail to do so, you have an indicator that you may be dealing with a less-than-reputable collection agency.
